Introduction

Your academic work on your programme of study will involve reading widely so as to enhance your knowledge and analytical skills. Your assessment work will therefore include numerous references to relevant sources that help to address the issue at hand. In citing the work of other authors it demonstrates your understanding and knowledge. When appropriately applied, this can lead to insight that would otherwise be problematic to achieve. By appropriately referencing your work you will protect yourself from accusations of plagiarism and moreover demonstrate that you are developing your academic skills. The following questions are designed as a self diagnostic. Where you identify a gap in your knowledge then you should seek to address this. Guidance on referencing can be found within the student handbook.
